Laboratory Manager

Position Summary: The Laboratory Manager oversees the day-to-day operation of the Dass Microbial Ecology Laboratory, keeping the facility organized, well stocked, and ready for research. This individual maintains inventory, coordinates ordering and equipment upkeep, supports laboratory safety and compliance, and helps keep multiple concurrent projects running smoothly. The Laboratory Manager works closely with the PI, research staff, postdoctoral researchers, and students.

Full-time position. Anticipated start date: Sep 2026.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. or M.S. in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.

  • Laboratory experience in an academic or research setting.

  • Familiarity with general laboratory operations, safety practices, and recordkeeping.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain laboratory inventory, including reagents, consumables, and supplies, and reorder as needed.

  • Coordinate purchasing and track orders, deliveries, and supply budgets.

  • Keep the laboratory clean, organized, and ready for daily research activities.

  • Oversee routine maintenance, calibration, and service of laboratory equipment.

  • Support laboratory safety and compliance, including protocols, documentation, and required recordkeeping.

  • Manage waste handling and general upkeep of shared laboratory spaces.

  • Onboard and train new personnel on laboratory procedures and safe practices.

  • Coordinate scheduling of shared equipment and laboratory space across projects.

  • Work with the PI and research team to keep concurrent projects running smoothly.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.

  • Prior experience managing or coordinating a research laboratory.

  • Experience with inventory or ordering systems and budget tracking.

  • Familiarity with BSL-2 laboratory practices.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
